RECOLAB is a Tasmanian design studio creating one-of-a-kind handmade bags from repurposed sail cloth, billboard vinyl, theatre upholstery and abandoned festival tents - diverting materials from landfill and giving them a second life.
Lyn is a Tasmanian designer who is the Founder of RECOLAB and it's chief Designer and Maker.
Our main material of choice is decommissioned sail cloth - but we also love to use billboard skins, abandoned festival tents and any other materials we can save from landfill that are able to be transformed into bags or other accessories.
RECOLAB is well known in the sailing community in Tasmania so most of our sail fabrics are donations of worn out sails from local sailors or sailing clubs. We have collected tents from Falls Festival and billboards from The Hobart City Council and Salamanca Arts Centre among others.

Yes. Because each RECOLAB bag is made by hand from repurposed materials, every bag has it's own individual characteristics depending on which part of the fabric the components of that bag are cut from.

Our turn around time on custom orders is usually no more than 10 working days, although this can be longer in busy periods.
All RECOLAB bags feature marine grade hardware (zippers, eyelets etc) and auto-industry grade webbing/strapping.
Yes! We love creating custom bags with material provided by you - be it your old boat sails, uniforms, advertising banners, billboards or other materials that can be transformed into a unique item.
As a result of their collaboration with The Sydney Opera House, RECOLAB was nominated for the Circular Economy Award in the 2026 NSW Sustainability Awards.
Yes! We are always happy to discuss your requirements for bags with custom logos, branding, numbers, names etc to suit your team.
We are more than happy to patch and/or repair your bag at no charge (if the fault is ours) or for a minimum fee, otherwise.
